Chicago Blues: A Living History has been nominated for a Grammy award in the Best Traditional Blues Album (Vocal or Instrumental.) category. Other nominees are Ramblin' Jack Elliott, The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band Featuring Rick Vito, John Hammond and Duke Robillard.
Chicago Blues: A Living History is an unprecedented and historic tribute to the Chicago Blues. In an extraordinary Chicago Blues alliance, two generations of Chicago’s greatest living blues traditionalists, Billy Boy Arnold, John Primer, Billy Branch and Lurrie Bell – inheritors of the Chicago Blues tradition – have come together to celebrate the Music from its earliest formative days through the present. These seminal artists will be releasing the landmark CD, Chicago Blues: A Living History. The 21 track, double CD payes tribute to the genre’s creators, its rich history, its current practitioners and its singular place in the ®evolution of 20th century American Music.
This CD recorded by Billy Boy Arnold, John Primer, Billy Branch, Lurrie Bell and their all-star veteran Chicago band, pays homage to the architects and sound innovators of the Chicago Blues starting from 1940 to the present. They are: John Lee “Sonny Boy” Williamson, Tampa Red, Big Bill Broonzy, Big Maceo, Memphis Slim, Billy Boy Arnold, Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Elmore James, Little Walter, Jimmy Reed, Sonny Boy Williamson, Otis Rush, Magic Sam, Earl Hooker, Junior Wells, James Cotton, Buddy Guy.
